Giving with results!

I recently received an email that has had me smiling every time I have thought about it since. Last year, in September, I did a show about “Micro Finance” and specifically about “Kiva” a lending site. The mail I received was the result of the “loan” that I gave while live on the show.

Personally I believe very much in the old proverb, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish you feed him for a lifetime.“, therefore when I came across Kiva I thought it was a brilliant way to give a donation. I believe a lot in giving to give but I also like to support people who want to live themselves and so Kiva allowed me to do it. I said I would also donate once and wait and see what happened before doing it again.

The mail I received was the fact that the $25.00 I loaned had just been repaid in full!

It was an amazing feeling to receive the mail and to realize that this person, Elizabeth Vlejo, is living a dream and making things happen!

Elizabeth Viejo business is a rice grower. She tills a hectare of farm so closely from their house. Aside from farm, she also raises pigs. She feeds and bathes them everyday to be able to grow her pigs healthy and heavy. She has four children. Her eldest child is 24 years old and is still living with her.
Receiving a loan of Php 8,000 is truly worthwhile because she needs resources for farm financing. The seeds that she used in her farm are not yet paid , the loan will help paying the seeds. She also planned buying 2 piglets and feed. She said that CEVI gives the lowest interest rate, which is 2% a month, and is very affordable to repay

So for me Kiva is a winner and I’m be searching for the next person to help this weekend! I also started a group for anyone who would like to share their own adventures. Together we can change the world is the thought, so how real can we make?
