Not a big fan of Adobe AIR? Want to try another option? There are two other options that are quite easy to do.
Fluidapp, Fluidapp was inspired by the excellent Prism (formerly WebRunner) project by Mozilla Labs. Check out Prism for much more information about SSBs and the benefits they provide to WebApp lovers.
Fluid is also for MAC Users, if you are a Windows user please skip down to the section on Prism.
- Download Fluid here
- Install and Run, you’ll get a single window with 4 inputs
- Now give the following URL
“../wp-content/client/air_chat.html” - Call it “Friday Morning Report Live”
- Specify where you want to store it (I have a folder in Applications called “Fluid Apps”)
- You can leave the icon set to the “favicon” or you can download this icon and use it.
- Now you save that and follow the directions. You can also change multiple different settings and such via the preferences once the app is running.
For those really lazy you can also grab my copy here
Prism, Thoughts on Prims – “Unlike Adobe AIR and Microsoft Silverlight, we’re not building a proprietary platform to replace the web. We think the web is a powerful and open platform for this sort of innovation, so our goal is to identify and facilitate the development of enhancements that bring the advantages of desktop apps to the web platform.”
Prism is for Windows or Mac Users, however Fluid for Mac seems to be a closer Mac user experience.
- Download Prism here (current version 0.8)
- Install and Run, you’ll get a single window with 2 inputs and some selection choices
- Now give the following URL
“../wp-content/client/air_chat.html” - Call it “Friday Morning Report Live”
- Specify where you want to store it, these are the “Shortcut choices”
- If you have an option for icon (choose the one from the Fluid section above)
For those really lazy you can also grab my copy from the Mac (not sure will work on Windows) here
