Not sure how many remember my little ordeal with being offered a “free” Developer Certificate so I could sign my Adobe AIR apps, Ryan picked up on it over on his blog, What Do You Think About The Current Adobe AIR Certificate Situation? | Ryan Stewart – Rich Internet Application Mountaineer, after I did an episode on the Friday Morning Report.
Well I received a mail from Adobe and this time they are offering me “Complementary code signing certificates from Chosen Security”, I hesitated and then finally responded to the mail and asked the simple question – “Is this option different than the other Developer Certificate? I did a bit about this that Ryan Stewart picked up. Since I was not a “company” and not in the US I was out of luck. Before I start down this one just wanted to check.” I got back an almost immediate response all to the positive and so I decided to give it a go.
Here were the results…
Followed the link and within 5 minutes was printing out the form to sign and a copy of my passport to send them.
Items in hand and now looking for an easy way to “fax” via email or over the net to them.
Several online options exist but all seem a bit cumbersome considering I fax maybe once every 2 years? So since I was heading into town I grabbed the papers and decided to try there. Once there I found 1, and I mean seriously 1 place in town that still did faxes and managed to send over both pieces of paper – paid a nice 7€ for it as well. Next time I’ll grab a cable and hook my computer back up to a phone line (not done that since 2000). The faxes went over at 12:26pm.
The email I just got at 14:28pm stated: “Your TC Publisher ID for Adobe AIR was issued successfully” please have your pin ready and go to this link.
I now have 30 days to re-build my AIR apps with this new certificate and get them back into the Adobe Marketplace.
Nicely done Adobe, ChosenSecurity and TC TrustCenter Team!! This is like, well I can’T even say 180° difference to the Thawte experience previously, in fact I can’t compare this was a breeze! Certainly the certificate is not the same “level” as the other but for individual developers I think this is a step in the right direction!
Closing the loop around the Adobe AIR Developer certificates, you can read more here. It seems many think the certificates are good to ensure “serious” development is involved and others because their IT shop won’t allow it otherwise and some say it doesn’t matter – I say Adobe has their hands full with this one and I wish my fellow evangelists over in the Adobe shop all the best of luck I’m sure at some point I’ll need the same wishes in the SAP community! The highlight for the SAP Community though was around the topic of “Ask the Execs”, a great platform to ask a question of the SAP execs while they are onstage during the SAP TechEd keynotes! Not many companies do this so I’ve always thought the idea was brilliant but my concern was always on the execution, what about the questions that don’t get asked? Where are they? Well as of yesterday all the questions from 2007 have now been published and all the ones from this year will be published and answered after SAP TechEd as well.
